Summer Learning Journey Day 2 Activity 3

New Zealand is just one of many countries that has amazing plants and trees. In fact, the African desert is home to some pretty incredible plants, like the cactus. Some cacti are able to survive on as little as 3 milliliters (ml) of water a day. Wow!
Let’s imagine that you are given a cactus for your birthday. To keep it alive, you must give it 3 ml of water every day.
Over one full year, how much water will you need to give your cactus plant?

  1. Hi Solomone,

I enjoy your different way of presenting this one! It's the first one I have seen where someone has a picture of their own writing and working out.

So you like doing maths? I quite like it, and I enjoy teaching it.
How do you normally show your working for maths for a problem like this?

Enjoying your blog, keep up the good work

  2. Hi Lee,

Thank you for your kind comment and I do love doing maths. Maths is my strongest subject in school. How I worked out problems like this well I read and read so I can understand. Then I try to solve the problem.

  4. Hi Chirstopher,

Thanks for the kind comment. How I found the answer was:
    1. I try to find out how many days in a year
    2. I multiply the 3 mls with the total days in a year and come up with the answer.

  5. Hi Solomone,
It was my favourite subject at school too.
It's good that you read through the question well before attempting it. That's the best way to tackle maths problems. Keep up the good blogging!
